You lookin’ for some real jazz with floor-appeal, boyo? Go no
further, for Jazz Heat Bongo Beat is here. A Ricky-Tick organised
bi-monhtly club night at Helsinki’s club Kuudes Linja, Jazz Heat
Bongo Beat brings together live performances by the label’s hottest
acts plus the diamondest jazz DJ action around. Given the right
opportunity, the club night will occasionally also travel into new
territories such as the Helsinki venues Kulttuuritalo (”the Culture
House”) which recently featured a Jazz Heat Bongo Beat crowd of
2000, and Korjaamo.

In addition to Ricky-Tick’s in-house names, Jazz Heat Bongo Beat
has featured the likes of Mulatu Astatke & The Heliocentrics, DJ
Nicola Conte, DJ Jazzman Gerald, Wahoo! DJs, plus many more. Get

events, for they are indeed up-a-comin’.

Ricky-Tick Records has also released a compilation of some of

This is, as they say, “da bomb”. Just imagine it: 15 Finnish jazz A-listers in the same big band performing originals composed and conducted by Valtteri Pöyhönen (of Dalindèo), one of the foremost young go-getters in the jazz scene. Ricky-Tick Big Band features the likes of Jukka Eskola, Timo Lassy, Antti Hynninen, Antti Lötjönen, Jaska Lukkarinen, plus many more, shoulder to shoulder with Antti Sarpila, one of the greatest big band players around. Sarpila’s clarinet is strongly featured in Pöyhönen’s compositions, which dig deep into the early days of swing jazz via modal tradition and Ethiopian vibes, all effortlessly mixed for good measure and distilled through the Berlin-marinated composing touch par excellence of Mr. Pöyhönen.
