The Five Corners Quintet to record a live album

The Five Corners Quintet are set to record three of their performances at Helsinki’s Kapsäkki venue on February 11-13 2010 for a live album to be released on Ricky-Tick Records.

The Five Corners Quintet live band, active since 2004 are heading for a tour in Japan and China in late May, and the Japanese release of the upcoming live album will coincide with the tour. The recordings will be released in Finland and Europe in the fall of 2010. Upon completing the Asian tour, the quintet will take an undetermined break for touring after playing some 200 gigs over the past six years, touring extensively in Europe, Japan, and the US. The tickets for these exclusive concerts will go on sale at Tiketti on Wednesday, January 27.

The Helsinki concerts in February will see The Five Corners Quintet get back to their roots. Producer Tuomas Kallio will set up his recording studio in another room inside the venue, thus re-uniting the preducing and live sides of the project initally conveived of as a studio production by Kallio and jazz DJ Antti Eerikäinen, also the head of Ricky-Tick Records. An enormously successful yet originally unplanned offshoot of the studio production, The Five Corners Quintet live band includes Teppo Mäkynen on drums, Timo Lassy on sax, Jukka Eskola on trumpet, Mikael Jakobsson on piano, and Antti Lötjönen on double bass. The Kapsäkki venue will feature a traditional jazz club setting with seated audience of 150 per night.
