This is, as they say, “da bomb”. Just imagine it: 15 Finnish jazz A-listers in the same big band performing originals composed and conducted by Valtteri Pöyhönen (of Dalindèo), one of the foremost young go-getters in the jazz scene. Ricky-Tick Big Band features the likes of Jukka Eskola, Timo Lassy, Antti Hynninen, Antti Lötjönen, Jaska Lukkarinen, plus many more, shoulder to shoulder with Antti Sarpila, one of the greatest big band players around. Sarpila’s clarinet is strongly featured in Pöyhönen’s compositions, which dig deep into the early days of swing jazz via modal tradition and Ethiopian vibes, all effortlessly mixed for good measure and distilled through the Berlin-marinated composing touch par excellence of Mr. Pöyhönen.
